IMPORTANT PROVISION OF FACTORY ACT 1948

This act has come into effect or force from the 1st day of April 1949.
The factory act defines certain terms as follows
  1. Adult means a person who has completed his 18 yrs of age
  2. Adolescence means a person who has completed his 15 yrs of age but not completed his 18 yrs therefore adolescence is age that is falling between 15 + below 18 yrs
  3. Child is a person who has not completed his 15 yrs of age.
  4. Week means a period of 7 days beginning at midnight on Saturday or such other night as may be approved in writing for a particular area by the chief inspector of factories.
  5. Prime Mover means any engine, motor or other appliance, which generates power or provides power.
  6. Reference to time of day as per section III of the act it says reference to time of day are reference to Indian standard time being 5and half hours ahead of GMT
  7. Inspector - According to section VIII the state govt. may by notification in the official gazette appoint such a person as possess the prescribed qualification to be the inspector for the purpose of this act and may Assign to them such local limit as may think fit.
  8. Chief Inspector - According to section VIII subsection II the state govt. by notification in the official gazette may appoint any person to be a chief inspector who shall in addition to the powers confirmed on a chief inspector under this act exercise the powers of an inspectors through out the state.
